Otterbury Incident - Chapters 2-4 Summary

Summary – Chapter 2
Everyone rushed for cover. George and a few other boys hid in the bicycle shed and waited while the headmaster examined the window. The headmaster tries to weasel out the culprit but with no success. Then he threatens to cancel the half-term holiday if the boy doesn’t come out, and so Nick reluctantly steps forward. The headmaster breifly interrogates him then tells him that he will have to pay back for it in the next week or else his parents will have to take it out of his pocket money. George and Nick just happen to be in the class that the window broke. While Rickie (their english master) is askeing what happened and the Prune gets cheeky and has to sweep up the broken glass. * * * George and Ted later are walking by Skinner’s yard and they meet up with Jonny Sharp. Johnny goes up to them with a smile and inquires about Ted’s sister Rose. He then tries to persuade the boys that they shoudn’t want Rickie as their relative etc. He then flaunts his money and yadda yadda. The kids aren’t convinced. Just then Skinner comes by and interrogates the boys on their morning activites, just when they think they are framed, Johnny sticks up for them and gets them out of trouble.

Chapter 3 – Summary
The boys are quarreing over a remedy to this dilemma. Toppy and his gang don’t think that they had anything to do with it but Ted and his gang prove them wrong.All of the boys decide to make a document of peace between the two troops called – The Peace of Otterbury. And then they come to a common decision, get together a collection of small trinkets and items and take them to the pawn brokers. The only get half crown at the pawn brokers and so they think of a new plan. Operation Glazier – in this they would go around town with : an acrobatic troupe, a lightning sketches person, a choir a shoe stand and much more. Also, the Prune mysteriously gives the boys a wooden box to keep their goods in.

Chapter 4 –Summary
“Operation Glazier” goes into play. The boys come up with a alter-ego for the campaign. After much debate they decide on the NYAF – Nick Yates Assistance Fund but disguise it as the National Youths Associations Fellowship. The shoe stand boys reveal their secret to success – they had a filt gun crew that stood in the basement of the bookshop and sprayed muddy water on peoples shoes through a gate, this way, they could ensure business. The boys almost get busted by the principal. Toppy takes over a man;s curling iron boothe. An old man pretends that some of the boys are his sons and beggs money like that. George does a newspaper route and earns money. The “Prune” reluctantly gives in a half of a crown to the jackpot and they tally up ze money. It came to a total of : 5 pounds, 8 shillings and 6 pence. Much over the total they wanted 2 accomplish.
